Kobalt 24V Die Grinder Review: Still a Great Value 4 Years Later

I've had the Kobalt 24V die grinder for around four years now, and it's been a good tool. More importantly, it reminds me just how good some of Kobalt's cordless tool deals have been over the years. You can get a lot of tool for the money without paying the prices of some of the bigger professional brands.
A Good Die Grinder for the Money
The Kobalt does exactly what I need a cordless die grinder to do. It's convenient, has plenty of performance for the work I've used it for, and being cordless makes it much easier to grab for quick grinding and cleanup jobs. After several years, I really don't have much negative to say about it. For the price I paid, I've gotten my money's worth.
Kobalt Has Some Serious Competition Now
What's interesting is how much the value-tool market has changed since I originally picked this up. Kobalt used to be one of the obvious choices if you wanted good cordless tools without spending Milwaukee, Makita or DeWalt money. Now Bauer and especially Hercules have made that decision a lot more interesting.
Hercules in particular has become a serious competitor, with aggressive pricing and a strong warranty that makes it much easier to compare against something like Kobalt. Four years ago, I think Kobalt's value proposition stood out more than it does today.
Would I Buy the Kobalt 24V Die Grinder Again?
Yeah, especially if I was already invested in Kobalt 24V batteries. It's been a good die grinder, it's lasted me for years, and Kobalt still offers some of the best deals in cordless tools.
But if I was starting a new battery platform today, I'd also be looking very closely at Hercules. Both offer a lot of tool for the money, and the competition between them is great for anyone who doesn't want to spend premium-tool prices. Four years later, I still think the Kobalt was a good buy. It just has a lot more competition now.
