We put the Makita XGT and Metabo HPT 36V reciprocating saws head-to-head, and when it comes to outright performance, the Makita is the clear winner. It's the more powerful and refined saw, and if maximum performance is the priority, I'd take the Makita XGT without hesitation.
But the Metabo HPT is much harder to dismiss once price enters the equation. It's considerably more affordable while still delivering excellent real-world performance, making it a compelling option for anyone who doesn't need the absolute best-performing saw.
