Kobalt 118-piece mechanics socket set review

I always love grabbing deals on tools and I found this socket set on sale for $32 at a local Lowes about a year ago. I ended up buying two (and so did zach) to keep in my truck and in my garage. I use it maybe once a week or so and here is my long term review for the Kobalt 118-piece mechanics socket set.

This is set is well laid out and makes it easy to find what you need quickly. I love the color coded sockets for metric and SAE, which is very similar to the Harbor Freight Quin sockets.

I have only found 2 weak points with this set, the latches (above) seem to fall off often, they just snap back on, but they can be easy to loose. Secondly the ratchets have some slop in them, but I have yet to break one. For $32 that I paid, I find this set excellent if this is my only 2 complaints.

I wish the markings were just a bit more easy to read, but not a big deal, these are some great looking sockets and they have held up very well.

The included Kobalt 90 tooth ratchet in action with a deep 10mm socket.

Props to Kobalt for including a few bits you probably don’t ever have with you, these hex and star bits in this set have saved my butt on a few jobs.

Kobalt offers an excellent value on these socket sets and they are always handy to have in the truck or garage, I personally keep 2 sets sockets in my truck at all times and find myself needing them at least once a week. The kobalt’s have proven themselves to be durable and reliable. They get the nod from this reviewer.
